Barangay IX - Daan Banwa Celebrates Second Hinugyaw Sa Malihaw

 Barangay IX or Daan Banwa celebrated its second Hinugyaw sa Malihaw Festival in commemoration of the City’s patronal fiesta last April 26.
    The festival which is apart from the annual barangay fiesta held every last Saturday of August, is in honor of its patron saint Nuestra Señora de las Victorias who protected and saved the town and the first settlement from invaders.
    Cong. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, Mayor Severo Palanca, the City and barangay officials graced the celebration.
    The activity started with the Hinampang sa Barangay, followed by the fluvial parade participated by the coastal residents of barangays IX and VI-A.
    Brgy. Captain Juvy Pepello with her barangay officials and committee also launched the Daan Banwa Hymn and read the history of Daan Banwa along with a short reenactment or drama presentation of the place’s history.
    Thirteen participants brought joy to the crowd during the “Sad-sad” or merry-making as they competed and performed wearing their distinct Filipiñana attires.
    The “Asosasyon sang mga Tigulang sa Daan Banwa” or the “ASTIG” rendered a song number and the community singing of the song, “If We Hold on Together” was also done by the officials and the constituents as a gesture of being together in building a strong and united community.
    The activity concluded with a barangay caravan to the Our Lady of Victory Parish.

Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero Visits Victorias City


Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero visited and witnessed the Malihaw Festival, Victorias City’s patronal fiesta in honor of Nuestra Señora de las Victorias ,last April 26.
    Sen. Escudero with Board Member Patrick Lacson and Cong. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, was welcomed by Mayor Severo Palanca, Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, the City councilors, employees, NGOs and POs along with the Victoriahanons.
    A simple dinner with the City officials, employees and guests was prepared for the senator.
    He was happy to visit Victorias and be with the Victoriahanons, “Nakagagalak na makasama ko kayo”, Escudero said.
    The senator also witnessed “DABDAB”, a youth presentation at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center and another variety show featuring the remake of “Mamma Mia Musicale” of the city employees at the Victorias City Public Plaza.
    Local talents and performers from Manila, Regine Angeles and Allan K were also part of the variety show.

Lin-ay Brings Sweet Victory To Victorias


Lin-ay sang Victorias, Jemaimah Navaja Taladico brought pride to the City as she was hailed first runner-up during the Lin-ay sang Negros 2012 at the Panaad Parks and Stadium last April 13.
    Taladico, 21, the Kadalag-an Queen 2011, is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts Major in Mass Communication at the University of St. La Salle - Bacolod.
    She is a resident of Brgy. III and the daughter of Dino and Merlita Taladico.
    “I want to share this victory with my beloved city, Victorias, our Mayor Severo Palanca and all the city officials, my family, friends, loved ones and all the Victoriahanons for their love, support and prayers and most of all, thank God for giving me this wonderful blessing”, she said.
    Landing as first runner-up in a pageant where 24 ladies from the different cities and municipalities vied for the crown, she received 40,000 and a 75% scholarship for a year from the province.
    Lin-ay sang Negros title went to Alyssa Marie Villarico of Bacolod City while second runner-up title to Sherrize Sean Acot of Talisay City.
    This has been the 18th year of the Lin-ay sang Negros, the beauty pageant held during the annual province-wide summer gathering, Panaad sa Negros and the 5th, first runner-up award of the City since the pageant started.
