Barangay IX or Daan Banwa celebrated its second Hinugyaw sa Malihaw Festival in commemoration of the City’s patronal fiesta last April 26.
The festival which is apart from the annual barangay fiesta held every last Saturday of August, is in honor of its patron saint Nuestra Señora de las Victorias who protected and saved the town and the first settlement from invaders.
Cong. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, Mayor Severo Palanca, the City and barangay officials graced the celebration.
The activity started with the Hinampang sa Barangay, followed by the fluvial parade participated by the coastal residents of barangays IX and VI-A.
Brgy. Captain Juvy Pepello with her barangay officials and committee also launched the Daan Banwa Hymn and read the history of Daan Banwa along with a short reenactment or drama presentation of the place’s history.
Thirteen participants brought joy to the crowd during the “Sad-sad” or merry-making as they competed and performed wearing their distinct Filipiñana attires.
The “Asosasyon sang mga Tigulang sa Daan Banwa” or the “ASTIG” rendered a song number and the community singing of the song, “If We Hold on Together” was also done by the officials and the constituents as a gesture of being together in building a strong and united community.
The activity concluded with a barangay caravan to the Our Lady of Victory Parish.
