PNP, AFP In Negros Occidental Hold Marathon Caravan To Promote Peace


In celebration of September as the National Peace Consciousness Month, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the Province conducted a five-day Peace Torch Relay Marathon Caravan which simultaneously kicked off last Sept. 17.
The marathon named “Pabalhas Para sa  Katawhayan” kicked off in San Carlos from the North and Hinoba-an in the South as it converged at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod last Sept. 21.
The Victorias City Police Office joined the activity by inviting the different stakeholders of peace from the government, religious and private sectors in the community to a brief peace program at the City Public Plaza last Sept. 19.
PSupt. Alexander Muñoz led the Pledge of Peace while the City’s Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Norman Egay led the harmony prayer and shared messages on peace along with Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca.
A giant torch was also lit along with the participants’ candles as the symbol of being one in the goal of achieving a culture of peace based on non-violence in the province.
The theme for this year’s peace celebration is “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo, Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan”.
The PNP and the AFP worked hand in hand with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process along with the LGUs, NGAs, NGOs, PO, academe and private sectors in the province to commemorate the month-long peace celebration.

Tourism Symposium Aims To Awaken Students’ Awareness Held




        Students of the different high schools and colleges in Victorias City attended the first Tourism Awareness Symposium at the City Livelihood and Training Center last Sept. 3.
The participating schools were Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias, Negros State College of Agriculture – Victorias Campus, Don Felix Montinola Memorial College, Jack & Jill School Castleson High, Negros Occidental National Science High School, St. Mary Mazzarello School, and Victorias National High School.
Provincial Senior Tourism Operations Officer Jennylind Cordero and Silay City Tourism Officer Severino Pacete, the resource speakers, shared important and essential insights on their topics, Community Based Tourism – its importance and composition and Tourism as an Industry – its contribution to the economy, respectively.
Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca along with councilors, Audie Malaga, Vincent Marie Roa , Rene Imperial,  and Teresita Bartolome were also present in the activity.
Different topics on tourism-related issues were tackled and awakened the interest of the participants during the interaction and open forum.
The symposium is one of the efforts of the City of Victorias thru the Tourism Office under Joy Famini which aims to increase the awareness of students, making them more involved in the area of tourism in the City and locality.

City Observe 112th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary



In commemoration with the 112th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, the City lined-up fun games and activities which kicked off last Sept. 17.
“Kawani, Ikaw ay Isang Lingkod Bayani” is the theme of the month-long celebration which pays importance to public service in the different government agencies and institutions in the country.
City employees and public servants enjoyed the friendly competition in volleyball, basketball, swimming and marathon prepared by the Human Resource Management Office headed by HRMO Faith Bacucang.
A fun run activity from the City Public Plaza to the City Sports and Amusement Complex highlighted the celebration last Sept. 28.
It was followed by the swimming competition and closing program of the civil service anniversary at the City Resort.
