In celebration of September as the National Peace Consciousness Month, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the Province conducted a five-day Peace Torch Relay Marathon Caravan which simultaneously kicked off last Sept. 17.
The marathon named “Pabalhas Para sa  Katawhayan” kicked off in San Carlos from the North and Hinoba-an in the South as it converged at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod last Sept. 21.
The Victorias City Police Office joined the activity by inviting the different stakeholders of peace from the government, religious and private sectors in the community to a brief peace program at the City Public Plaza last Sept. 19.
PSupt. Alexander Muñoz led the Pledge of Peace while the City’s Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Norman Egay led the harmony prayer and shared messages on peace along with Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca.
A giant torch was also lit along with the participants’ candles as the symbol of being one in the goal of achieving a culture of peace based on non-violence in the province.
The theme for this year’s peace celebration is “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo, Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan”.
The PNP and the AFP worked hand in hand with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process along with the LGUs, NGAs, NGOs, PO, academe and private sectors in the province to commemorate the month-long peace celebration.
