Victorias City Celebrates Wellness This July



The City of Victorias celebrated health and wellness in the observance of the 40th Nutrition Month this July.

With the theme, “Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan”, the City Nutrition Council (CNC) headed by Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca (CNC Chairman) and Vice Mayor Jerry Jover (City Nutrition Action Officer) prepared activities to protect health and promote  proper nutrition in Victorias.

Last July 2-3, the Infant and Young Child Feeding Training was organized by the City Health Office.

The “Takbo Para sa Kalusugan” kicked off the month-long celebration where the CNC heads and members along with the different organizations and participants ran together and converged at the Victorias City Public Plaza for the opening program.

The “Buntis Party” and “Search for Well-Baby and Nutri Nanay” was held last July 8 and 9, respectively where the welfare and health of mothers and their children were given focus.

The “Search for Best Gulayan sa Eskwelahan/Barangay” of the City Agriculture Office was launched last July 23-25.

Meanwhile, the Kitchen Garden Seminar also took place at Keniavel’s Restaurant.

The “Beverage Making Contest under the Lutuing Pinoy”, where different participants from the barangays reinvented beverages and made them healthier during the competition at Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center last July 30.

Victorias City Says Farewell To Mayor Severo Palanca


 
                Victorias City said goodbye to a very dedicated and principled man whose life has brought inspiration and has touched so many lives, Mayor Severo Acuña Palanca, who died last July 21 at the age of 82.
He has brought honor to the City of Victorias in his 21 years in government service, as a municipal councilor in 1988-1992; city mayor in 1992-2001; city vice mayor 2001-2004; city mayor in 2004-2010 and 2010-2013.
The progressive municipality of Victorias was converted into a city by virtue of R.A. No. 8488 and the charter was ratified on March 21, 1998 during Palanca’s term.
Mayor “Vero” as he is fondly called has devoted his life in serving Victorias and its people with love, zeal and unwavering enthusiasm providing numerous projects for social, economic and general public services.
He was given necrological services in Bacolod and in Victorias by people who are dear to him, his family, friends, very prominent people, City officials and employees, different organizations and many Victoriahanons where paid their last respects to the Mayor for his unparalleled service.
                Words are not enough to express the people’s gratitude and love to the man who has done so much for Victorias.
Mayor Vero will always be treasured and all his great works remains in Victorias and in the hearts of Victoriahanons.









SMMS Senior Bags Awards During Asia Math Olympics In Hong Kong


Christy Mae Sombito, a senior high school student of St. Mary Mazzarello School (SMMS) Victorias received a medal and certificate of honor for winning 3rd place during the 10th Asia Cup Stars of the Maths Olympic Finals in Hongkong last July 20.

Another Encouragement Award or Merit was given to her for competing in the 2014 Chong Hua Cup Creative International Olympic Mathematics (Hong Kong Macau Region) Final Competition.

Sombito is one of the 34 delegates of the Philippine Team who competed with other participants from Macau, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, among others, under different categories and grade levels.

She passed the qualifying exam of Mathematics Trainer’s Guild (MTG) after undergoing series of sessions from August 2013 – February 2014 at their school and also qualified for the national and international competition.

SMMS MTG Coordinator in Northern Negros Thelma Cambas, MTG trainers Bernard Belleza of Negros Occidental National Science High School Victorias and Johna Castro from Don Bosco Technical Institute helped her in preparing for the competition.

        Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca had his first State of the City Address at Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center last July. 16.

       All of his programs and projects are geared towards bringing ASENSO or progress to Victoriahanons.
       His priority thrust and development agenda is ASENSO, which stands for Agriculture, Ecological and Sports tourism (Agri-Eco & Sports Tourism); Social and Health Services; Education, Environment and Economic Development; Network and Alliance Building; Strong Revenue Generation and Management; Organizational Renewal and Strengthening.
      He highlighted the many developments that the LGU as one had made under priority thrust and development agenda.
       The Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2014 – 2024, it will guarantee the plans that the City have today and that these will be carried out and implemented even beyond our term, an assurance that Victorias will continue its ASENSO efforts.
      In consonance with CLUP, we crafted our medium term for plan for CY 2014-2016 which is anchored on the development agenda dubbed as “ASENSO Victoriahanon”. As such, the city’s annual budget amount to P362M prioritized programs, projects and activities geared towards the attainment of the ASENSO Victoriahanon agenda.
      In  October 2013, the City Development Council approved the City’s Annual Development Plan for 10 PPAs amounting to P58.6M from the 20% Development Fund through CDC Resolution #05-10-2013 series of 2013. This was then endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for approval and adoption last October 16, 2013.
      By virtue of EO No. 2012-008, a CLUP Planning Team was created, with the CPDC as Chairman and overall coordinator.
      A total cost of P40M had been allocated for various projects which are either completed, ongoing or for implementation. These include the renovation of Victorias City Rural Health Unit and the construction of four-classroom building with HRM facilities at the CPSU which are both ongoing.
      The Mayor extended his sincere appreciation to everyone, who in one way or another, have their done part for the betterment of our city.
      “A lot has been done, but a lot still need to be done. I am calling on all of you, the Honorable Members of the Sanggunian, let us work together for a common goal to improve the lives of all Victoriahanons. We owe it to our constituents to give them our best. Let us put substance in our work and never allow mediocrity engulf our chance to make a positive difference in the live of our people.”
      “As we continue to serve the remaining two years of our term, let us be guided by the words of the great Marcus Tillius Cicero: “SALUS POPULI SUPREMA EST LEX”---- The welfare of the people is the ultimate law.”
The city officials, heads of the government and national offices and agencies graced the occasion.

Victorias City Holds BHW Day



                Victorias City celebrated Barangay Health Workers Day at the City Sports and Amusement Center last July 17.
The annual activity of the City was organized by the City Health Office headed by BHW Coordinator April Golda Acuña.
Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and Vice Mayor Jerry Jover along with the City councilors attended the special day for the City’s BHWs.
There were about 435 BHWs who attended the whole day activity where different games with prizes and freebies were sponsored by the city officials.
The “Pa Bingo”, which added more fun to the event was sponsored by Cong. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez.
