The Northern Negros Aquatic Resources Management and Advisory Council (NNARMAC) celebrated the National Fisherfolks’ Day with the theme “Hugpong Mananagat Negrosanon, Padulong sa Masanag nga Palaabuton”, in Victorias City last May 31.
An awareness caravan of the fisherfolk participants kicked off from San Carlos City to Victorias City in the morning and it converged at Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiñna Arts and Cultural Center.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Cadiz City Mayor Patrick Escalante, Victorias City Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, Manapla Councilor Marcos Escalante, Victorias City Councilor Rene Imperial, members of NNARMAC, provincial officials and guests were present during the celebration.
The governor welcomed and thanked everyone as he also emphasized that the province and the Visayan Sea is truly blessed with rich marine ecology and that the protection, preservation and progress of these resources lie in the hands of the fisherfolks.
NNARMAC Executive Director Marcel Irisari, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources representative Joed Hablo, Senior Adviser of EnRD Program Andrea Leonor Barcelona and Provincial Environment Management Officer Atty. Ma. Aleta Nuñez gave their orientation.
NNARMAC member LGUs are San Carlos City, Calatrava, Toboso, Escalante City, Sagay City, Cadiz City, Manapla and Victorias City.
