100 Students Benefit From SPES Program

Victorias City helped 100 Victoriahanon college students through the Special Employment of Students (SPES) Program last April 16 to May 17.
SPES is a program of local government units during summer, which helps support the students’ educational expenses while exposing them to the local government setting.
In Victorias, this was made possible through the leadership and support of Mayor Severo Palanca with PESO Manager Armen Tabligan and PESO Coordinator Jonnalyn Borrero, in coordination with the Department of Employment (DOLE) and Public Employment Services Office (PESO).
The summer job beneficiaries received P4,600, where 60 percent comes from the City and 40 percent from DOLE with insurance, employment and termination contract.
They rendered 184 hours doing clerical works and errands in the different offices and departments.
Aside from that they also took part in community development activities of the City such as the “Brigada Eskwela” in Victorias Elementary School, Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Memorial Elementary School and Victorias National High School last May 21 and 22.
They also undergone the orientation on solid waste management last April 24.
“Summer SPES 2012”, the culminating activity of the program, had fun activities like the songs and yells presentation, “Gandang Hari” and game such as the “Pinoy Henyo”.
Requirements for qualification in the program include legitimate residency in Victorias City, not more than 22 years old, preferably third or fourth year college students with no failing grades and should belong to low income generating families.
