A Hand Tractor with trailer was given to the
City of Victorias by the DA Regional Office VI last June 12.
Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, together with SP members turned-over the
machine to the officers of Barangay Twenty Farmers Association (BATFA) during
the flag raising ceremony last June 16.
The
equipment have accessories like plow, harrow and 12 Hp diesel engine designed
for preparation of land prior to planting rice and for transporting farmers’
products.
According
to Wilmer De La Cerna (DA-RFU VI Farm Mechanization Coordinator for Negros Occidental),
the equipment is worth P100,000 project grant.
The project is part of the agriculture
mechanization program of the Department of
Agriculture. Rice mechanization, in particular,
is the efficient application of
modern farm technologies to increase
rice production and preserve its quality.
It maximizes land and labor
productivity thereby increasing the economic returns to rice farmers.
In general, mechanization allows
easier and timely pre-production and post-harvest operations. The use of hand
tractor reduces drudgery of field work, hastens land preparation and lower
production costs.
The recipient, Farmers’ Association will serve
as the service provider for delivering on-farm operation and land preparation
to its more than 70 farmer-members, at reasonable cost.
With this project, the Officers of
BATFA were very grateful to the present administration, headed by the Mayor
Francis Frederick Palanca for facilitating the delivery of the machine to their
group.
